The Vestavia Hills Board of Education held its monthly meeting on Monday, July 27. The meeting began with recognition of Vestavia Hills’ school resource officers, who recently received the the 2026 Model School Resource Officer (SRO) Agency Award from the National Association of School Resource Officers. The board also recognized State Rep. Mike Shaw who presented the Board with financial donations to various school programs; and recognized VHEW student Reuben Greer for winning the Tillotson T4 US Cup kart championship.
During the meeting, the Board approved and awarded contracts for various services including cleaning and paper supplies for custodial needs, and supplemental grocery items for the Child Nutrition Program. The Board approved a joint purchasing agreement for the Child Nutrition Program with the Alabama CNP cooperative. The Board also approved a deductive change order for safety and security upgrades, resulting in an $18,344 refund to the school system.
Four Board of Education policies were updated: Admissions and Attendance, Anaphylaxis, Physical Restraint, and Academic Standards. The policies were updated to ensure they remain aligned with current state laws and the school system’s academic and operational standards. Monthly financial statements, consent items, and personnel actions were also approved.
